I'm convinced of the benefits of meditation. And having traveled to many Asian countries I know it can be quite common in those countries.

I've never seriously giving it a try, but that's because I can't imagine that I'd actually be able to do it. Can't imagine being able to "clear my mind" (seems like there's always something going on up there...guess that's good thing, but not for meditation).

Have any of you ever tried to meditate?

Have any of you had any success with meditation?

Any related info. would be interesting to hear.

Well least you were straight to the point(you didn't need to meditate over that answer!!!heheheh)

But I believe meditation is I'm just getting into the lotus position and am clearing my mind...........

I took a class once...about 15 yrs.ago...I actually was able to 'clear my mind' but I was unable to sustain it. Like you, there are just too many things running through my mind...and even sitting there telling yourself to clear your mind means you haven't DONE it yet! I found it very difficult:(

I've never tried meditation. It's not my kind of thing. I even find power yoga (which is considerable faster in pace than yoga) too slow.

I would love to learn. It must be fantastic to be able to do that - clear your mind of everything, at will.

I harbour an idealistic notion of experimenting with mediatation in India, although I may never actually get around to it. I have a very restless spirit, and while it can have its advantages, it is not altogether a positive thing. It would be an achievement to gain an upper hand, so to speak, on this and develop an ability to "switch off".

Is it possible to completely clear one's head of ALL thoughts though? I cant imagine it.

I have been trying to meditate, but I don't really get the hang of it. I have been playing around with shamanic journeys (assisted by Drums) but it takes a lot of practice and discipline. I can't let go properly.

As for clearing one's head of all thoughts. It is possible, I can do it only for a few seconds at a time, but it's practice that's needed.
Try sitting or lying somewhere comfortably and just concentrate on breathing, counting your breaths slowly... Just concentrate on the breathing alone, and there will be thoughts creeping in, but then just keep concentrating on the breathing and the counting.
I often do this when I am walking, just counting my steps...

Or in other situations my head clears of all thoughts, that's when I have to talk and the other person just looks at me... My brain just shuts off...

any of you try guided meditations? images are a great basis to begin- some times the aim in not to clear the head entirely of thought-it may help to meditate with other as vibrational energies are at an optimum. Plus opening up the chakra points is useful.

sometimes the actual forcing of 'clearing' the head makes it worse- its just something that comes along with practise

theres lot of tales to be told about all this but im sure thatll be for another thread if people are interested!

Yes, I have tried. At least twice. Have I had any success? Not at all of you, many things are running through my head and it is so hard for me to concentrate on "letting go". The only things I seem to able to concentrate at all on are those things I have to, house chores, traveling plans...speaking of which...I am starting a new topic (Adventure to Space)...

To all TP members,
Please take note that meditation should be done with the proper guidance by experienced specialists AND PLEASE DO NOT SIMPLY DO IT BY YOUR OWN WAY. Meditation, in general is a good habit to sustain but overdoing it would not bring you any good!

Many cases happened recently in Asia that people simply would like to save their money and did it at home by tuning on the music tracks from their friends. You would get into unpredictable mentally disorder if you practise it incorrectly for a considerably long period. So be aware, okay?
