My boyfriend and I are arriving in Rio on 3rd Sept - and are wanting to head up to the North of Brazil to the Amazon.

We are thinking of going from Rio to Salvador and from there to Belem. In Belem we are getting a boat and going through the Amazon to Mannuas.

Any recomendations on a good route from Rio to Belem??? Places we MUST go and things we MUST see?

Thanks

If you get a chance, Olinda just outside of Recife is very cool!
Also maybe check out one of the north beach destinations like Jerricoacoara but be warned its difficult to leave that place!!

Please feel free to PM me any questions any time :)

Mim, sounds like we've been on the same route in Brazil!

Definitely have to agree Jericoacoara is very hard to leave, but worth the visit. I also liked Natal a bit further south. There are impressive sand dunes and a great hostel which looks like a castle.

Hay, just like mim I'm happy to answer any PMs with further questions!
