My girlfriend and I have two weeks to travel and we would like some advice on what country to go to for approximately that time. We are debating between costa rica and Peru. Ideally, we would like to go to Peru but don't know if two week is long enough. Can you guys suggest which country would be best and a good itinerary for that time frame. Any other suggestions on countries as well, we're open!

I'd personally choose Peru.

In 2 weeks you could:

Start in Cusco (few days for in and around Cusco, market in Pisac).

Train to Machu Picchu, spend night, return to Cusco the next day.(2 Full days/1 night).

Train (10 hrs.) down to Puno (on Lake Titicaca).

Couple days exploring Islands (Uros, Isla Taquile,...) on Lake Titicaca.

Then you could go to La Paz, Bolivia (1 full day by Bus, around Lake Titicaca), and spend a few days in Bolivia. Or you could go somewhere else in Peru.

I can't speak about Costa Rica, but I'd agree Peru is a great place to spend a couple of weeks. Travel100 suggested heading to La Paz, Bolivia, which is an amazing city. But before you go check on the area's political stability. It is entirely possible to get stuck in La Paz behind blockades that don't end for days, or weeks. I got stuck there for four days which wasn't a big deal, I've got lots of time. But if you have a return ticket to worry about, be well-informed before crossing into that particular part of Bolivia.

Although I am unable to offer advice on this topic, I am also interested in hearing what people have to say about these two countries since I am trying to decide which of the two will be next on my hit-list. What do people have to recommend in Costa Rica? I understand it is one of the more expensive Latin American countries. Is it worth visiting though and why?? Also, apart from Cusco and Macchu Picchu, what else is there to see and do in Peru??

Lake Titicaca (and the Islands on the lake)is awesome. There is also the Amazon form Iquitos. Colca Canyon (maybe the deepest canyon in the World). The lines (seen form the air) at Nazca. And some other stuff (pre-Inka ruins, etc.).

To me, Peru is way more interesting than Coasta Rica.
