How do you feel about cloning technology? Is it necessary for our human future?

Let's try this one from different angles ...

Do you consider cloning as a threat to society ?

Is cloning of humans immoral?

Coincidentally, I had a conversation with someone about this topic very recently.

Speaking strictly about human cloning or actually more specifically "therapeutic cloning", I believe this to be the way of the future in medicine. Our President opposes to stem cell research and I can appreciate his concerns. I feel there are a number of reasons for which stem cell research should be fully funded by the government but I can also play devil's advocate and convince you about all the wrong reasons. It can be a touchy subject.

Many people that suffer from degenerative diseases could benefit from therapeutic cloning, there is no question about it, but more significant debate has came about from the right people should have to reproduce without any interference from their governing bodies or even the church, hence bringing about the morality issues surrounding its need.

Overall, I think that with enough reasearch, scientific proof, and conclusive studies, down the road people will argue more strongly for the establishment of cloning as medicine of the new era. It may just be a matter of time...;)

Now, medicine is not my cup of tea...never been interested in medicine topics but I find this one to be interesting. Thanks W!

I know we've discussed a similar topic in the past but I cant wait to hear CC and Isa's reply...if I remember correctly you have pretty strong feelings about this subject .

Iam for clonning for research purpuses but not human clonning.I heard that anything clonned does not have feelings. Is that true?Well if that is correct then it wont be humans but robbots with no feelings who are capable of reigning destructions to our world. And who needs more of that anyway.

I'm sure you are referring to CC and Isa having pretty strong feelings...

I find cloning an interesting topic. That's all

This is an interesting topic. It reminds me of a film "Artificial Intelligence" - the boy David.

Would like to follow-up with this thread.

Yes Anne, I do have some very strong thoughts on this subject. But I am going to refrain from voicing them, at this particular time anyway, for a couple of reasons:

1) It is a great topic and one that makes headlines regularly. It is also one that has the potential to create some rather heated debate. I would prefer that my opinions and comments not be fuel that feeds un-necessary fires. (Something that could very easily happen.)

2) The subject of human cloning, and stem cell research (as you mentioned), have so many other issues attached to it (scientific, medical, ethical and religious to name a few), that I could not possibly state my opinions in just a few short pages, let alone in a few short sentences.

I will, however, be very interested in the comments that are sure to be posted. I'm sure it will prove to be a lively debate/discussion. ;)

Yes indeed W... YOU meaning CC and Isa. ;). But speaking of which, how do you feel about the subject? ("That's all" is not a long enough answer ).

My medical knowledge is limited really to practical first aid treatment.

Advancements in cloning generally interest me. I'm sure there are many people who feel strong about it as an issue. My mind is just open to sensible comments
