scotty has indicated that this thread is about Thailand

My name is Scott and I am a 21 year old student interested in backpacking Thailand in the summer of 2004.

I am an experienced traveler having already done Europe, and I am interested on getting some info for my next trip. I am planning to travel for about 10 weeks, and I was just wondering a few things...

1, How much cash should I plan for my day to day spending (how much for hostel, food, travel, daily fun)

2, Where are some popular places to go

3, Is it easy to get to other countries from Thailand, if so where. Or should I be satisfied with Thailand alone.

5, What are some must see and do places or events

Hi Scott,

I think 10 weeks is quite a long time just to spend in Thailand. I spent two and although I thought it was a bit short to see everything just a couple of weeks more would have been fine. So I would recommend going to other (neighbouring) countries as well with that kind of time frame.

I spent about 4-5 eur average on accommodation last time I was there for a hostel bed. That was back in 2000 though so that could be slightly higher now and if you are travelling alone double rooms aren't a good option as they of course work out to be more expensive. I am not quite sure how much I ended up spending but think it was around 500 EUR for 14 days.

Popular places to go? Plenty! Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao I would recommend to everyone. There are some good suggestions in another thread on Thailand here too;

It's very easy to travel to other countries from Thailand and airfares can be very cheap (there is more on this in the above thread as well).

A 'must see/to do' thing seems to be the Full Moon party... but as someone that hasn't done it before I only have that from others...

Hope this helps!

Hi there, from my opinion, 10 weeks is too long for me to spend just in Thailand itself unless you are really focus visiting it. I would suggest you to overland to Cambodia too if possible visiting one of the wonders in the world. You could get visa on arrival straight away and it cost you 20bucks. from border you could reach siem reap (Angkor) withing 5-6hrs ride. There you go, I am sure you could spend a wonderful day too in neighbouring country where u need no fly.
I've been to thailand many times. I choosed the islands to relax and the fav spot too to visit too. check out the 'Floating Market' at Damnoeng Saduak. cool! If u more into party, maybe u'd like to go for a full moon party either at Ko phangan or Koh Samui. Koh Chang near the cambodian border is worth to visit also.
I'm going to check out their Koh Phi Phi next week.
Hope you have a good travelling!
