Good one!!! If you want to see Amsterdam (and the rest of Holland) this is the way of transporting yourself.

Hey, you Dutch bike riders are Dangerous!!! I can't even count the number of times I've almost been run over. (Although it could have something to do with having just left a "coffeeshop", and venturing into the "sacred" bike lane) .

Yep, the Red Light District is really worth a visit, to see the difference between the day and night versions. Really an eye-opener.

Really?

Travel100 I don't believe you've seen more then the coffeshops in Amsterdam. There is more in Holland then just that

I've been to Amsterdam twice and I would say two days is plenty to see it all in the city. You can practically walk the whole city in one day...ok, maybe you dont get to stop much, but you get the drill.

My top choices would be:

- Dam Square (where you can see the Royal Palace, the Nieuwe Kerk and the War Memorial.

- Ann Frank's House. I suggest you read the book or watch a good biographical movie before you go to have a greater appreciation for what you actually see.

- Rijks Museum, maybe even hit the Van Gogh Museum if you are into art. I liked Rijks better personally.

- You must go to a coffe shop (not necessarily THAT type of coffee shop) that sits at any canal and just people watch. As you may know, canals are just everywhere you turn.

LOL. For me, it was an eye-opener. In the day, except for what you see in the windows , it was like any other normal area. At night, whoa, it bursts into life.

I don't know how the locals see it, but it was very interesting for me.

Oh, and the Flower Market is quite interesting too!

In my town of living is also a street whith 'the ladies', but I feel always uncomfortable when cycling trough that street. You always see cars with black windows passing and men with hads, sunglasses and who knows.....fake mustaches??

Hey Wouter, last time I was in Amsterdam (Sept 98) there was this huge parade going on through the streets, there were all these floats done up in flowers representing countries or something, remember there was one with the Sydney Opera House on it, it was really amazing, what is it called? Do they do it every year? And yes I probably had just come out of a coffeeshop, but no I didn't imagine it

Hey, I multi-task!!! I've been to all the museums (The Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, etc.), Anne Frank's house (three times), etc.

Wow. Cars with black windows too...

One of the most exciting things I saw in Amsterdam was a group of firemen rescuing a cat from a tall building. Kitty was so afraid! Thankfully everything was okay.
