If you're tired of all the tourists, you should visit Haarlem (15 minutes by train from central station) or Leiden (15 minutes by train from central station). These two pitoresque cities are worth to visit for half a day or more or to just have dinner in a nice restaurant at "De Grote Markt". Another possibility is to visit Zandvoort (25 minutes by train) on the coast. You have a nice beach there, only if the sun in shining of course ;-)

Don't do what everybody does... ;-) We all know about the coffee shops and the red light district. It isn't that special... ;-)

How much is the train (r/t) from Central Station to Haarlem, Leiden, & Zandvoort?

I'll be in Holland theis July and August, before and after India. Looking for some new things to do around Amsterdam.

How about the giant flower auction, just outside Amsterdam, has anybody ever been to that?

or Leiden (15 minutes by train from central station).

35, actually. Unless they've sped them up tremendously in the last two years... ;)

Den Haag (The Hague) en Scheveningen are also quite worth a visit. 50 minutes by train, and 50 minutes by train plus ~15 by tram respectively, but that's really not all that much, and the Binnenhof in Den Haag and the the entire stretch along the coast in Scheveningen make for pretty pitoresque destinations.

You mean Aalsmeer? Not really worth visiting in my opinion (though I've never been there, so don't take my word for it).

Hey thanks, I'll use the link you posted for train info.. Yea, it's in Aalsmeer, you have to get up really early, so wouldn't mind skipping it, although I heard it is pretty amazing to see.

I recall making extensive usage of that link when I was in Holland. It's very useful.

I think Leiden, Haarlem and Utrecht are definitely worth a visit. They're very beautiful. :)

Which one of the three is your favorite to recommend for a visit?

I would go to Haarlem!!! But i'm a bit biased, because I lived there for five years. I really like it, because it is very near to Amsterdam, but in comparison very quiet (not many tourists). Utrecht is also very nice, a lot of nice restaurants and pubs.
