Which one of the three is your favorite to recommend for a visit?

Can't I recommend all three? I think if you don't have much time to spare, Haarlem is good for a day trip. You can get a lot of walking done in Haarlem, and that's a good way to get a feel of the place. It's got a very small-town quaint charm, very lovely.

I like Utrecht too, it's a pity I didn't have a lot of time to explore the place. As jaykay mentioned, lots of nice pubs and restaurants, and the Dom Kerk.

Hey Summer,

Yes, you can recommend all three .

I'll have plenty of time, just need to know which one to check out first.

Hey Jeff,

Actually, it depends on where your base is. I stayed with friends in Den Haag and it was very convenient for me to go to all three places (although Utrecht is about 45 mins away by train from Den Haag Centraal, and about an hour from Den Haag HS - two main stations in Den Haag). If you start from Amsterdam, the logical follow-up would be to take in Haarlem. Amsterdam-Utrecht and Amsterdam-Leiden would take about 30 minutes.

And since you said you have time, maybe visit Rotterdam and Delft? The latter is somewhat similar to Haarlem, with that small-town charm. Rotterdam is very modern, very cosmopolitan, complete with some funky designs, hehehe.

Thanks Summer,

I'll base in Amsterdam and take half-day or day trips from there.

I've been to Rotterdam, Den Haag, Alkmaar, Einhoven, Maastricht (really nice town, my second favorite in Holland), Venlo, Arnhelm, but not to the 3 towns you mentioned. I'll check out Haarlem first .

Cool. So when are you hitting Holland?

Well, If all goes well, I'm getting my US to Amsterdam tickets today, I'll be there the last of July & then again towards the end of August (with India in between).

Awww, I'm envious! I'd love to go back to Holland, it's a great place. Oh, have you been to Den Bosch? It's beautiful. Would suggest you pay a visit there too. Should be quite convenient to get there by train from Amsterdam.

In that case I can also recommend the Frisian lakes. Go to Sneek, you'll love it! If you love some quitness, you could go to the Wadden Islands. But be carefull to get accommodation, because everything could be booked.

Never even heard of it? How far from Amsterdam? What is it, another nice, quaint Dutch town?

Where are these places? How far from Amsterdam? What's at the Frisian Lakes?

If I wanted to take a day trip to get out the beach and just kind of people watch and check out the beach, where should I go? And how to get there form Amsterdam. In other words, I don't want to go down and lay in the Sun or go in the water, but would like to go a beach area (form Amsterdam, for the day) and check out the scene.
