Before anyone corrects my geography, i realise Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam, that too has a certain charm that Bangkok lacks.

I never have been to Bangkok but I heard a lot about prostitutes that are everywhere, is that true?

Am you hoping to find some or avoid them? The majority of the naughty nightlife is in distinct areas. The most famous are Patpong, Nana Entertainment Plaza and Soi Cowboy. These areas are chock full of bars/clubs that have ladies and ladyboys that will service the customers. Good places to avoid if the 'pay for play' scene offends you. BKK is large enough that you will not come into contact with this element unless you are looking for it.

Obviously I am avoiding these sort of things......Thanks for the reassuring answer

Anyone of you went to the far north near the golden triangle? I think its unsafe there but I would like to take a look at the poppy fields (opium).

I've been to the Golden Triangle, and it's safe as long as you don't go wandering around looking for Opium fields.

OK that's not a very good idea, I guess. What's it like there?

Well, up at the tip of the Golden Triangle you can look over the river at Burma & Loas. There are some hilltribe people in the area, but they are not so authentic because too many tourists. There is a town where you can cross over into Burma for the day. Since so many tourists go to thailand it's really not as exotic as the name "Golden Triangle" sounds. Maybe there are exotic areas up there in the Burma and Loas sides, but then maybe they aren't as safe.

i just got back from vacationing in Bangkok 2 days ago, i LOVE it there and i plan on moving there for 2 months sometime later this year

stay in nice hotels, and go to the good clubs, like Bed Supper Club, or QBar, or Hollywood, they are very awesome clubs (after you get a naughty escort of course)

I went to Mae Sae at the border of Myanmar & Thailand. Didn't see any poppies growing there though

I like Bangkok, but can only take it for a few days, before the traffic, pollution, heat, etc. get to be too much. I find it to be a Fun, vibrant city, and an ideal base to travel to other parts of SE Asia.
