Hi everyone, i've just signed up to this forum after having a look around, great site and some excellent advice from people.
I have a question that i'm really having trouble finding an answer for. Here is the situation:
I have a working holiday visa to travel and work in Canada, this was taken using the BUNAC scheme, and i plan to move over from the UK to start working in October. The visa, which i have not yet collected from BUNAC, i am told, is simply a letter you take to the airport, and is not attached to or fixed into my passport.
I need to visit Canada at the end of July for one week, but i am worried in case that when i enter the country in July my WHV will be started and i will forfeit almost four months of my time when i will actually be able to use it. I hope this is all making sense!!
So, basically, will i be able to enter Canada, specifically Montreal, in July using a tourist visa and keep my WHV for October?
Has anyone been in the same situation before? The Canadian Commision in the UK is awful to contact, and i running out of ideas of where to search/ask.
Does anyone know or have any advice to give? Your responses will be greatly appreciated.
I believe that if you are a citizen of the UK you don't need a visa just to visit canada, as long as you're only staying a short time and not working. so as far as I know, you'll be fine and can wait until you come to canada in october to use your working visa. hope that helps.
and have a great time in montreal, i miss it....
I think I recall from Australia's WHV that it really starts at the moment you first enter the country after getting it. Which would be very not good for you.
Have you tried emailing the Canadian embassy? (Though that might be what you mean with the canadian commision.) They might be able to tell you some way to have it not automatically go in when entering the country.
Hi.. thanks for your advice... do you think there might be a way to not get the visa started when i enter in July? It is almost impossible to contact the embassy in London.... they don't accept emails or phone calls, and i have already sent a fax and letter with no response (this is a bit time sensitive, i dont want to book a flight and risk losing £500 by not using it), and i really cant get to London to ask in person as i'm in Scotland.
Has anyone attempted this before?, are my details of the visa that has been issued held on a database in Canadian immigration? My passport will have nothing in it when i arrive at Canada in July.
Thanks for any help guys
i did a quick search and couldn't find anyway that you could contact them directly, but since your coming to canada in july i'm guessing your visiting a friend. they can call CIC for you at 1-888-242-2100 monday to friday 8am to 4pm.They won't take calls from outside canada. they should be able to answer your question, but theyll be on hold for a long time, so i hope your very good friends.....
