Hi, I have managed to get Dec & Jan off work (a miracle in itself) and am planning a trip from the UK to Oz. Thought I'd be smart by stopping off a week somewhere on route, but now my biggest headache is do I spend a week in Singapore, Tokyo, Bangkok or Hong Kong??
Also, given I will be in Oz over Xmas & NY, where is the best place to be? At the moment I am thinking of Cairnes...
Any advice on this or more would be great. First time outside of Europe and green as the grass!
depending what airline will offer the best fair.
tokyo might be slighly off the way.
in order of costs: tokyo, hk, singapore, bkk.
I'd go for Bangkok or Singapore for budgetary reasons. Of course, if budget's no concern, then Tokyo would be fabulous
As for where to go in Oz in December, it really depends on what you want to see. It would be a bad time of the year to go to see Uluru, due to scorching summer temperatures. Cairns is tropical, so is much the same temperature year round really, though you will be heading into the wet season at that time of year.. You could spend some good time on the Great Barrier Reef if you like. I'm sure you would love it! But again, it depends what you like to do. If you like drinking wine for instance, you would be far better off heading down south, in particular to the various wine regions in South Australia or Victoria.
So, what are you hoping for from this holiday?
Peter - Need to get away from the job for a bit and want to say I've done some travelling. If I don't do it now then I never will. My girlfriend is going with me and she feels the same, the older you get the more shackled you feel!
Our plan is to head to Oz via one of the countries above. We intend to then fly into Sydney and spend a few days here. Then want to fly to Brisbaine and hire a camper van to leisurely tour the East Coast northward. Want to finish with some *quality* time in Cairnes as the main reason for going to Oz is to see the barrier reef - want to spend at least a week diving but will need to do an open water course first (never dived before either).
Unfortunately due to work we are going Dec & Jan, right in the middle of the Oz summer holiday. I am also a little concerned by the wet season in Cairnes but will just have to put up with that.
Any pointers on where to visit or what to look out for would be gratefully received - having just written this it now looks a bit light for 2 months. Nothing is booked yet so if you think we would benefit from a different travel route then please let me know
hi adsey, don't know if you still can, but think you can do a stopover in bali if you fly with garuda. this may be another option for you. it is a good place to break up a long trip, esp. if you haven't done much travelling before. super friendly people, cheap accomodation, warm air, warm water, good food, beaches, forests, great snorkelling, monkeys running in the road, beuatiful temples, colourful markets, really great country. enjoy your trip! sure you'll become addicted to the travelling life, like the rest of us!
