Me and my girlfriend are travelling around europe for 2 months in about 2 weeks time.
Is it worth buying a tent. We are on a tight budget, so if possible, maybe in some field somewhere, we could sleep in a tent rather than paying for a hostel room for the night.
Does this sound like a resonable idea?
I carried a tent around Europe with me for a month and only used it for two nights in Hungary in a campsite that was nearly as expensive as a hostel.I suppose it really depends on where you plan on going, if your sticking to cities I wouldn't see the point.
that's a good idea - it gives you as well a chance going into coutryside, nature and national parks. Hopefuly weather will be OK this summer
I brought a tent when I was interrailing - I stayed in hostels half the time and the tent was really handy for the other half. Some campsites in Europe are really inexpensive, and it can be really worth having the tent if you find that you need to cut costs along the way.
I brought a pretty lightweight tent, but the downside was that it didnt handle heavy rain too well. It got wet right through during a particularly bad thunderstorm in Verona. It took ages to dry out. I was not a happy camper
HOwever, that was just because I had a cheap tent. If you dont mind bringing a decent one with you, I think it's definitely worth it. Campsites can be a refreshing change from hostels also.
