I'm going to be teaching english in France starting in October, but my visa doesn't allow me to work any other jobs. does anyone know if i will need a special permit to be a street performer like you do in the states? if i play guitar or piano or accordian etc. in bars/streets/subways just for tips is that going to be legal? has anyone done this before?

any advice or input is always appreciated. thanks.

My thought is this would be the same rule applied to other countries in the EU. Anyone know about other EU countries polocies on this matter?

Ok let me try to answer you....normally you cant work in France without permit...Now, it's an artistic job and normally cops let artists perfom in the street. There are some areas you cant play without permit like the metro or train stations. Most artists who perform in the streets are just non professional ones and you can perform as well as at La Fontaine Saint Michel or at Montmartre. I am not sure you can play in public park but you can try.
I will try to have more infos and post later. I know people who performs here in the street and they maybe can tell me.

jason, thanks for the reply. I was beginning to think nobody had a clue what i was talking about. If you have any further information that would be a great help. I won't be staying in Paris, but I imagine rules in Paris would apply everywhere else too, so it would be helpful. Thanks.
