Our flights from Sydney only allow us to fly into Bombay when we go to India. We wanted to do the golden triangle first, then onto Varanasi then down to Goa. We would like to chill out for a while once we have visited these places. How long does it take to get to these places from Bombay and whats the best way to get there? Does this seem like a good idea to anybody who knows India? We have a choice of flying out of Madras, is it worth taking a trip over to that side of the country? Also are there any cheap internal flight companies in India. Any advise will be really appreciated. Thanks

From Bombay? In this order? The golden Triangle?

Hi, We were going to leave Bombay after a few days then up to do the Golden Triangle then to Varanasi, then make our way down the south? Do you think this is a bad idea?

Hi Happy,

You're covering a lot of ground there. How long do you have? If you have a few weeks, then you should be able to do it.

From Bombay you could travel down to Goa for a few days. Then back to Bombay and on to Delhi and do the GOlden Triangle. From there on to Varanasi and from there you could head south to Madras in a loop.

Its a lot of travelling but if you have the time why not? I'm planning something similar myself.

Check out www.airindia.com for domestic fares.

Hope that helps,

E;)

But do you mean the golden triangle in Thailand (at the border with Laos and Myanmar)? Or do you mean something else with the golden triangle, if so I didn't understand.

If you mean what I think why not fly to Bangkok from your homeplace. Then going north to the golden triangle. After your time there you return to bangkok and catch a plane to Calcutta in India (160 to 200 US$). From there you will get easily to Varanasi, Bombay and everywhere you like in India (by the very efficient trainsystem). At the end of your trip you catch your plane back home from either Bombay or Delhi.

No problem Happy.

Hey, if its chilled out you're looking for, apparently Kerala is the place to go. Cochin looks amazing and you can cruise along the backwaters in Kerala for a few days. Its supposed to be fabulous.

(As an aside, I think Paul McCartney proposed to Stella on a boat in Kerala - I dont know how I know this stuff )

Anyway, yeah, check it out. I'm def going to head down there myself when I land in India.

2 and a half months!! you can definitely see INdia at a relaxed pace then!
