This thread was started because a very minute (and I do mean minute) number of new members have chosen Travellerspoint as a target for spam - including inflammatory remarks about other members, abusive comments in open forums and sending less than tasteful PMs. Again, only a small handful of members have been at the receiving end of these actions. But, the behavior of this little band individuals has proved to be nothing but juvinile and in very poor taste.

Travellerspoint has approximately 35,000 members. You may think your pranks are causing chaos, but all you have achieved is demonstrating that some people do in deed have bad manners. As a whole, those who have joined the site know what TP is about and that most of us are here because we have travel knowledge to share. Something you have failed to grasp. Your antics are as transparent as your profiles.

You have obviously angered some, insulted others and blatantly targeted a few more. What you haven't realized... It is all for naught. In the end, there will always be a TP and more new members, while all of you will be less than a vague memory.

Sam and Pete, if you wish to delete this - delete away. But, I felt I needed to say something. Thank you for that opportunity.

Hey, couldn't have said it better myself! Time to start logging some ip addresses for certain members that claim to be different people... ;)

Great to hear that! I received another spam (perhaps) again today... sorry if I over-react before this coz i just had my PC repaired after receiving spams! (i lost a lot of data because of that! can't bear another one...) And thanks to Isa's words, your words pacified me in fact.

"Wireless Web puts personal data at risk" - there's an article posted from CC. Credit cards, e-banking and many more...luckily i never have any credit card and would not consider this as my ache

Anyway, lets put an end on this issue and say 'cheers'! (note: there's a very important issue i would like you to comment on it as i just have it posted in Off Topic)

Everyday is excellent!

Hi Lee,

It's important to note that anyone 'spamming' on the Travellerspoint forum or using the messaging service has no access to your personal details (email address etc.) and emails received that might be spam could come from anywhere (I receive a 100 a day at least). We use the term spamming to clarify that what they are doing is unwanted and not asked for as well as against Travellerspoint terms of service, but it's totally separate to things like spamware or adware which might cause computer breakdowns and the like (I've had one of these before too, made me switch to a mac, so I'm not complaining in hinsight :) ). Spamware and Adware is generally the result of opening attachments to an email or downloading software from the internet that might not be safe.

Spamware and Adware are much more 'dangerous', as they can access different levels of your computer hard drive and read/send off personal information. Plus, they often make using the internet impossible as they open all kinds of extra ad programs at the same time. Very annoying!

Unfortunately, all these things are here to stay and I am afraid that at some stage there will probabbly be another member of Travellerspoint that decides they are going to post all kinds of stuff in the forum for no reason. If you ever get a message on TP and it looks like SPAM, just use the 'flag as SPAM' button and it will notify Pete and me and we can block the user or delete them even if necessary.

Anyway, just thought I'd clarify. There's some big differences in the term 'spamming' as it's very broad and it often gets misunderstood.

Cheers,

Sam
ps. off to 'off topic' now :)

Thank you for getting rid of those unwanted messages in my message centre.

Sometimes its hard to know what is spam when they try to plead that they are a 'victim' but the true colours normally shine true

Isa - Great words !! After all I plan to be logging on here for ever.. its too addictive to give up..

Yes, thank you Sam!!! The deletions are appreciated by many, that I know!

And, thanks to the TP members for being vigilant and recognizing a few "bad apples" when they fall in to TP's back yard!
