From Reuters:
Nearly 200 people have died of sunstroke and dehydration in India as high temperatures sweep many parts of the country, government officials said on Sunday. Orissa was worst affected, with officials there confirming at least 75 deaths in the last six weeks. Unofficial reports put the toll at more than 300.

Andhra Pradesh was also reeling under a heatwave. Local government officials said more than 50 people had died in the state in the past month.

That's terrible. I'll be in India in August and I hate heat, but the monssons should cool things off by then and I'm heading up into the North (Himilayas).

I'm originally from Australia and it gets quite hot in the middle of summer. When I lived in India, the weather didn't seem too extreme. I tend to think that dehydration through inadequate water supplies could be a significant contributing factor. India seems to experience heatwaves each year.
