Just after a bit of advice from experienced travellers i land in sydney oz july the 5th just wanted to ask would you advise me to book a hostel before i arrive , or be adventurous and just head into the open without anythin booked.?
is it easy to get booked into a hostel basicly?
what I found very convenient about hostels in Sydney is that many have a cheap transport from and to the airport. In this case you might want to book ahead and the shuttle drops you off right at the hostel. Saves you the hassle to get there with public transport!
If you don't mind that, I generally don't think you have to book in advance at this time of the year.
Enjoy your time in Australia!
P.S.: Booking is simple and easy, you just need internet (check the websides of the hostels) and have a credit card handy.
Book ahead if you like, but don't worry if you don't. We arrived in Sydney in October (2 adults, 2 kids) and found a hotel by asking at the Tourist Info at the airport - they even booked it for us.
I know it wasn't a hostel, but you are going in the quietest season, so I can't see you having a problem. Besides if you book something, you might find something better between now and then and change your mind.
At that time of year you should be fairly safe. I usually do book ahead if I am only going to be in a place a couple of nights and don't want to waste time trying to find a place when I am not really going to care how good it is anyway... if you're staying longer, time is not so much an issue generally.
If heading to Sydney in December or January though, definitely book ahead. The most popular hostels in Sydney (these even have 400+ beds) are already showing as fully booked around new years based on the hostel booking engine here on Travellerspoint.... it's crazy at that time of the year in Sydney!!!
