hi there just wanted to pinch some advice ive been told its quiet this time of year in oz , i land in sydney july the 5th and i want to know will i come accross many other travellers out there or will it be that quiet till october

You are going in the Australian 'Winter' but all things are relative. I don't think it's likely the place will be empty - just quieter and easier to find a place to stay.
Melbourne can be cold at this time of year, Sydney a bit warmer. But if you want heat, head to Cairns and the Northern Territories where it's tropical.
You may even get to do more in the water - from December to May you are advised not to swim in certain northern waters due to the box jellyfish. But it might be good right now.

If you head north, it is beautiful perfect weather. It is the tourist season in the north, so if you are looking for peace and quiet you are not likely to get it. But it is the best time to see the north. Not so much rain, heat and humidity.
