I'm sure this question has been asked a million times before!!
I will be off to Thailand in approx 6 weeks time and I'm really confused about Visa's.
Some places have said that I need to apply for one before I go, other places have said that I can get it on arrival (a 30 day one).
I've been told that the best thing to do is get one on arrival for 30 days, then if we decide to stay longer we can either extend it or leave the country, come back and get it stamped for another 30 days!
We intend to stay for between 3-6 weeks.
I just don't know what to do for the best and with time running out rapidily I need to get something sorted.
Also, we plan to go to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos - can we get these on arrival aswell?
Any advice would be great.
vietnam in advance while in se asia
You definitely need to sort out your visa for Vietnam before you come here, the rest are on arrival as stated already.
Dave, you are still in Vietnam???? Hooooly s...
Anyway, Kristie...if I were you I would get my Thai visa upon arrival, if you decide to stay longer than 30 days, get an extension. If you leave the country and reenter, you will have to pay for the departure tax twice. I think it is about 12-15 US dollars if I remember correctly (it was 500 Bath). I dont know how much the extension visa costs but I am pretty sure it will probably be cheaper.
If you head from Thailand to Cambodia, you can get visa upon arrival whether you arrive by land or air. It is $20 US dollars.
For Vietnam, you have to process that ahead of time but you can do it while you are in Thailand or Cambodia. It doesnt take long at all, most hostals or travel agencies can do it for you and it costs about $30 or a bit more if you need it back in less than 2 days...I paid $35 because I happen to arrive in Cambodia on Buddha Day so I had to get thru the red tape at the Embassy.
I didnt go to Laos but I remember seeing all over Thailand, WE PROCESS LAOS VISA, VIETNAMESE VISA, CAMBODIAN VISA.
Regardless of what you decide, you will see how easy it is to process everything while you are there...good luck!
Thanks guys, that has helped no end.
I think I will do as Anne suggests and get my Thai visa once I'm there and sort out the others too.
I'm going to book my ticket next weekend, honestly I'm soooooo god darn excited I can hardly wait!!!!!!
book asap - fares go up all the time (high season)
tell me about it! damn those summer holidays, travel agents must make a small fortune when the kids are on leave from school.
