I have a 12 month RTW itinery (in general talk) and my first leg sees me entering Cape Town from London on 18th February 2006, staying there for a while and then going overland to Johannesburg before flying out on 10th March to Bangkok.
Any advice on the best hostels to stay in, places to go and see, weather, experiences, stories etc etc would be really helpful.
Also anyone planning to be there at the same time be great to hear from you!
I stayed at the Ashanti Lodge in Cape Town with a pool and a great view of Table Mountain. This was in 1999 and I think it was about $10/night CAD then. Robben Island is a must when in Cape Town. Tours of the old prison are given by former prisoners of conscience there-the stories are riveting. If you go on a wine tour in the Stellenbosch region (and you will) avoid the plum and watermellon schnapps - it'll kill ya!
