PinkCherry has indicated that this thread is about Thailand

hello! were planning on going to thailand soon from australia and are really tight for money. we were wondering if poeple who had been there could advice how much money we could get by on, we also want to travel round when were there but i have been told that buses and trains are really cheap. were planning on being there about 7 months but also going over to cambodia, loas and vietnam. i know asia and thailand is really cheap but how cheap is really cheap that we would need to live fairly comfortably???
thanks loads!

hi cherry and helen!

yes, come to thailand, laos and vietnam!

i live in ubon ratchathani... I'm an american living here in thailand for 7 months. I am an english teacher here and teach young kids. I'm 39. I stay in a rented house and there are rooms upstairs if you'd like to stay in a bed/breakfast type thing - with kitchen - but i dont cook for you! haha. My girlfriend might if you are nice to her!

we have an airport you can get to from bangkok called UBON RATCHATHANI. We have many wats, waterfalls, and things and also we're VERY close to laos entry point - chong mek.

It's very very inexpensive in the northeast here in ubon. Laos is cheaper. Vietnam comparable.

Food here in ubon if you BOTH eat well - is around $10.00 USD per day. In laos cheaper like I said.

The room here at my house would be about 300-350 baht - not exactly sure since it would be my landlord that would be charging you for it.

300 baht is $7.50 USD.

Anyway, if you have any questions just let me know - keep my phone number handy if you make it over towards Ubon and at the least we can meet up for coffee or something and chit-chat a while...

:)

You can also think for Bangladesh. How cheap? You can pass one month only for USD 100 only (Lodging & fooding)

stay for as long as your budget lasts - 'cheap' and 'comfortable' are contradictory.

I had a pleasure of flying with Biman (Bangladeshi airlines) and stayed for a few hours in Dhaka - experience which I would not like to repeat

on departure from London we were asked to move from our seats to back rows to help with plane lift off.

we had over 1 h layover in Hamburg - Biman authorised travel agent told us that plane goes directly to Dhaka.

In Dhaka we had to go to a transfer desk - even though we had boarding passes for our onward journey to Bangkok - where they took our passports and passes for a check. For hours they were not able to tell us when our plane departs - we were just told to go to restaurant and pay for our own meals.

On board they were transmitting long prayers from Mecca (several times during the flight) - any airline from some more civilised country would be sued for religious indoctrination for doing anything like that.

Airport dirty and smelly.

My friend and I are also in the same situation as Cherry, we are also from Australia. I was wondering if anyone had any idea on an average amount you would spend per day. We have no idea how much money we would need for 8 months travel.
