how much should one exchange here in the US to go to london and paris.
my sister is staying for two months.

Lovelee, I personally exchanged money when I arrived and only enough for things like cab, bus, train, and incidentals. For the rest I always used my credit cards. I noticed that my Amex always gave me a better exchange rate when I would charge my purchases abroad.

Also, once she is there, she will figure out right away how much is needed for weekly purchases and incidentals...

thanks for the links cc, and areinstein it was much help. mys sister told me she just exchange a little bit at the bank and the banker was lecturing her about not bringing enuf. i think the credit cards should handle most of her expenses and the cash for cabbys and stuff when she arrives.
