I gave this itineary to Airtreks and they came back with an estimated cost of $9000 CAD...that is nuts..
So I noticed that the flight tickets are a lot cheaper in the UK. Does anyone know if we can book them from the UK? If i arrange my own flight to the UK and start the RTW flights from there, do you think it would be cheaper and can it work???

Although I booked from England I went with Virginatlantic.com which is an American Company. The price they quoted me was $2305 which converted to £1270 which I paid, so maybe try them.

We're from Norway, and are booking our ticket through UK with Round the World Flights, and they said it wasn't any problems flying out from UK no matter were u come from..

I really dont know why, but i think it has to do with the weather maybe???

Hi the website address is www.virginatlantic.com. The number I rang them on was 01293 747586 which is the fares department or there are other numbers on the website. Good Luck!

.. although, i was thinking of starting in NY, maybe I'm going the wrong way because everyone else seems to be ending in NY ... why is this, am i missing something?

Guess the only reason I am going clockwise as it seemed more logical than going backwards. No other reason really!!

Hmmm ... then maybe i shouldnt be too concerned!! My thoughts were to do a month in N America, see what i want to see then chill in Hawaii for a coupla weeks in the sun then move on to Oz/ NZ/ and Fiji around May time ... the rest of the trip will consume the rest of my travelling time, i think!!

I think the only reason why people travel the other way (instead of starting in the US) is because Asia is cheaper, much cheaper than the US. If you start in the US, you will blow 50% of your money probably...if you go to Asia, you will probably use 10% of it and you feel better still having so much more left...hehehehe.

I dont know, this seem like a good reason to me

Booked my tickets with Travel Nation about a month ago. Using a Great Escapade ticket the same as you. My itinery is:

London - Tokyo
Tokyo - Hong Kong (Via Singapore)
-Overland-
Bangkok - Sydney (Via Singapore)
Sydney - Auckland
Auckland - LA
-Overland-
NY - London

Total cost £1068! plus taxes of about £200. I consider that a bargain!

Going to spend about 4 months in asia going to Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. Then off to Aussie to work/play for 6 months (visa secured, only took 1 day) :)

The one draw back I can see with this ticket is the fact that all Asia routes are with Singapore Airlines. This means I have to fly from Tokyo-Singapore then back up to HK! This turns a 3 hour flight into an 11 hour one lol! Oh well more airmiles for me :)

Leaving September 5!! Getting close now
