After reading through the posts, and seeing which posts were being flagged in the thread "online option," I just wanted to say, it kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a forum, if people have to worry about there posts being censored for no real reason. This forum is a World forum, not based in China, or Stalin's Soviet Union era. If adults are offended by things that would not offend the majority, then they should simply click another thread and read something else.

Personally, I think the "spam" button should be used with caution. If this forum were to start "censoring" harmless posts, then I think the admin. to need to really explain the guidelines.

How do other members feel about "cencorship" on a World forum?

I think a persons personal views or ideas being expressed openly is one thing(actually, a GREAT thing!)...attacking an individual is another...something that is meant to hurt, or belittle, insult etc... an individual (or specific group)has no place on a forum.

I agree. I joke, cute comment, personal opinion, etc. are all great & shouldn't be censored. Insults, etc. should be deleted.

I'm just really surprised by this development. I also thought those were harmless posts, bantering that goes on among some members, and meant to be taken in a light-hearted manner.

Oh well.

I thoroughly agree with you Jeffrey! This is only slightly different than changing the channel on your television if you find something offensive. Not every comment is going to please every member or every person viewing the site. But, to paraphrase Sander in the Online Option thread - everyone online is no more than four clicks away from something offensive.

If everyone needs to analyse their every comment as to whether it will offend someone else's sensibilities, then an open forum doesn't actually exist. Is that not also a form of cencorship in absentia? (The posibly offended party present or maybe not present, but let's not say anything just in case...)

As you say - this is a world forum. Cencoring something just because it does not fit your personal criteria of good taste, good manners , or good behavior does not make it offensive to everyone. A few clicks got youb to the offending material and a click or two more will take it away. But those clicks should not be to necessarily delete something, but rather you the viewer, clicking to another page or another site altogether. (Sorry S&P!)

Once again, we head down that slippery slope of what is inflammatory and what isn't. Personally, I would hope people who visit forums such as TP are open-minded enough to realize there are many people from many cultures here and everyone has a say.

I thoroughly agree with your ideology in principle.
