I would have to agree with Jeff - the SPAM button should be used with caution. In fact, considering the recent spate of trigger-happy spamming, I wouldnt be surprised if Sam and Peter felt the need to withdraw the right from most people, and allow just a few select balanced individuals to take care of this from now on.
My own gut reaction to the recent "antics" on this site is this:
(and you can all take this to be inflammatory or otherwise. I apologise to Sam and Peter if this ends up fuelling further problems. Its not my intention at all.)
All this nonsense is completely transparent and utterly juvenile.
There has been more than one or two members who have taken a step back from TP because they have had enough of the schoolyard tactics being employed on what is quickly becoming a daily basis. The recent appearance of a group of spammers who began to target regular members of the site was almost the nail in the coffin, as far as I was concerned. If they had not been removed from the site, I think I would have been saying my own goodbyes to you all.
My personal viewpoint is that, being 26 years of age, I won't lower myself to get caught up in such tactics, but at this point I feel that I have made some good acquaintances on this site, not to mention all the invaluable and unselfish travel assistance I have received. I feel a certain degree of irritation and mounting anger that the tone of what is an altogether excellent site is allowed to be ruined by a few BAD EGGS.
I'm not going to comment further on this, except to say in response to Jeff's post, censorship is a tricky issue, especially on a world forum. Perhaps, the only answer to this is that Sam and Peter and their appointed Moderators should be the only people with the power to do so in this arena.
