Gimmelwald, Switzerland.
I first read about it online about a year ago, and have been dreaming of going ever since! Has anyone here been to Gimmelwald?

It looks sooo beautiful: http://www.gimmelwald.com/ and http://www.mountainhostel.com/

If you have been there, how was it?!

Hi, I have never been to Gimmelwald but I looked at your links and it looks really beautiful. Have you ever been to other parts of Switzerland?

Hi, I 've never been to grimmelwald either, but travelled for a full month through Switserland, and almost every part was amazing (accept for Ticino; very crowded and no nice people and very expensive accommodation in comparison with the rest of Switserland). Just to give you some ideas: go to Interlaken, Davos, Grindelwald and Saas grund/Saas Fee (very nice Gletsjer).

I have, and it is as stunning as you expect. The extra bit of effort to get there is definitely worth it if your looking for somewhere to chill out/relax/hike/be amazed by the scenery etc.

I have been there twice, and it's amazing. There's a hostel there, too. I also recommend Murren, just a little ways above Gimmelwald. This is a great place in particular if you like to hike. It is, by the way, the epitome of a perfect Swiss storybook village. Not to be missed!

I was there back in 1999, and yes, it's an amazing place. I believe I stayed at the mountain hostel that you linked, though if I remember correctly, I think you can also sleep on hay in a barn for dirt cheap. I didn't go that route as I was with my then-girlfriend and she wasn't into it, but could be an interesting experience. If I'm thinking of the right place, you can hike right out of the hostel and catch an amazing view of the Jungfrau. Again, this was 99, so I hope my memory is holding true.

Yes, we loved Gimmelwald! Sort of stayed there by accident. While we were in Germany someone had suggested that we visit Interlaken, Switzerland, but it was too touristy. So we headed "up the mountain" and "found" Gimmelwald. Stayed at a sweet hostel. Be in shape when you go. With the high altitude, hiking is a bit of a challenge at first. Make sure to take the train up the Jungfrau...spectacular view, worth every penny.

I haven't been there, but I know the area... The pics just made want to go there. I am back in Switzerland for a week in August, maybe I make it up there, the only problem is that my friend can't go hiking so I might just stay with her.

But then again, this looks just too beautiful to miss...

I'm going there on the 25th of July, just booked a night in the hostel after reading this very thread (though I was in Bern from the 21st anyway). Do you have to hike to get there? On a website I read it said that the cable car drops you off pretty much right at Gimmelwald, but if someone has actually been there then I'm sure they know better than the website. I'm not much of a hiker I have to say.
