Wow, that's a tough one. On my first trip to Europe as a child, we took a 5-day cruise down the Rhine from Rotterdam to Basel. In Germany we passed castle after castle up on the hills overlooking the Rhine, I've always remember the excitement of spotting another castle as we wourld come around a bend in the river.

[ Edit: fixed typo ]

I remember driving through Scotland, and coming across a lake in the middle of nowhere. It was raining, and quite misty, but I thought I could see something out in the lake (no, not a monster!).

The mist cleared for about 30 seconds and about 500 metres away in the lake was a small island with the remains of a castle on it. It was very eery.

I was amazed at the number of castles in Scotand.

I've only visited Bodiam Castle in East Sussex. Apparently, it was one of the last castles built. There was a fascinating sanitation system ....

Quoting james

I was amazed at the number of castles in Scotand.

That reminds me. I think my favorite castle is the one in Edinburgh. It looks so majestic hovering up over the town.

The only one I have ever seen is Cinderella's Castle...;)
So does that mean that Neuschwanstein Castle is my favorite?
(would love to see that some day...)

I like Pendragon castle, it's a tiny ruined castle in the Eden Valley, Cumbria, and was purportedly the seat of King Arthur's father Uther Pendragon.
