Hi people,

I was wondering if people could recommend a nice hotel in Bombay, that is well located.

Looking for new/good furnishings, air-con and TV. Budgeting for about $100US to $120US a night.

I'm meeting up with my German girl friend who is currently working in India, so need somewhere nice and comfortable.

Shelleys Hotel near the harbour seems very well located, but I'm not sure about the room standard.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

In colaba you will find hotels in all price standards (including the Taj mahal hotel). Colaba is the tourist centre in the south of Mumbai, enjoy your stay

Thanks for the info wouterr,

Unfortunately most of the hotels seem to be $150USD plus (including Fariyas), which is too much... I'm traveling on a budget, but want to stay at a nice hotel for the first few days because its been so long since I've seen my girlfriend.

I've used priceline.com to get great prices on hotels in the US, but it is not available in India. What is the cheapest way to book hotels in India, any websites offer lowest prices?

Any recommendations for nice hotels in Mumbai that are no more than $100USD/4000INR (including tax)?

Thanks

Dazz

I don't know where you got that information, but I think its harder to find a hotel with prices above $50,- then hotels with prices below 500INR = $10,-. I walked around looking for accomodation in Colaba 2 years ago and didn't want to spent more then 300INR = 6,- (Mumbai is expensive compared to the rest of india, normally my room was like 150INR = $3,-). It is very easy to find a hotel within this pricerange but its basic offcourse.
If I were you I just went to Mumbai-Colaba a few days before and walk around for a decent room. I am sure you will find a good hotel that's decent enough for you and your girlfriend. With $100,- you will find room where you will live like the maharadja, really. For $25,- you will have a perfect room anyway. You normally don't need to book in India (maybe in the Taj Mahal hotel). That's my experience, though.....I only stayed in the cheapest hotels. Take a look in the lonely planet of India to get an idea of prices. Hope this will work for you.

Thanks for the help people.

I'm still looking but one hotel that may suit seems to be Godwin (http://www.mumbainet.com/hotels/godwin/).

Anyone stayed here?

Cheers

India Mike has some good info.

Unfortunately they are not taking new members for the next month or two.

This is a real shame, as I was wanting to post there about about where would be a good place to visit to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi (http://www.indian-visit.com/fair-festivals/festivals-of-india/ganesh-chaturthi-india.html)on 7th September.

The hotel reviews at India Mikes gives a good report on Shelleys Hotel.

Cheers
