i haven't thought about hostels what's on khao san rd anyway? is that a major entertainment/shopping district?

If you are backpacking, the most convenient place for you to stay may be Khao San Road. It is a bit chaotic because it is a single street packed with nothing but backpackers. The downside, it can be a bit noisy. The upside, you can find everything you need there and endless travel advice from other people like yourself traveling around. Not to mention it is within walking distance to everything you may want to visit (very close to the Royal Palace).

I stayed at Nana Inn in Khao San Road, I would also recommend D & D Inn. They run about 450-600 Bath per night for a double room (two twin beds). But once you are there, you have endless choices. You can check out the rooms before you decide to stay as well.

The easiest way to get there is to take the A2 bus from the aiport to the last stop. It drops you off right at KSR. The ticket is 100 bath.

Hope this helps you ;)
