STA experience?

Hi all

A friend and I are planning our big trip, STA are the cheapest by far, so it looks like were going with them. But before i book, i would just like to find out about other travellers experiences with them.

Are they recommended?

We have booked out 6 month RTW tickets through STA for the 14th Sept 05. Didn't have any problems with them apart from the wait. Only 2 employees were working with at least 10 people waiting.

We have also arrange insurance with them and soon to help us book the hire of a campervan for New Zealand.

We found their prices really competitive.

hi chris,

I am going to book my rtw ticket with STA next week, as they were the most competitive.
Although they were very understaffed what staff they did have were really really helpful.
We spent 2 hours just talking to one of them about all the places we plan to go, and where they had been. (I apologise if anyone was waiting behind me)!!
Also, there are branches worldwide so if you have any problems while your away you should be able to sort them pretty easily.

Haven't heard great things about their insurance though. (sorry mj75). People not getting through, not getting any money back, problems with claiming etc. But hopefully you won't have to claim for anything.

I sent off a quote for my itinery to a number of places. STA were by far the worst! I ended up going with Travel Nation who's quote was £400 cheaper!!

Hi, I booked my 6 month ticket round the world with STA and found them very helpful and would recommend them. Most people have travelling experience and can give advice on what parts to go to and hotels. They do not rush and take time over helping you in the best way they can.
I also got my insurance with them and again they were very helpful in choosing the right insurance for me.It was a bit more expensive than i hoped but they advised me to get full cover.

I booked my RTW trip with them 2 years ago in Brighton, UK and they were very helpful and friendly and took plenty of time with us, found us just the right tickets at good prices and booked a couple of post-flight hotels which were fine.

However, I went to the branch in Pott's Point, Sydney for some advice about changing our flights and some travel stuff around Sydney and they were totally rude and unhelpful, completely ignored us for about 20 minutes and then weren't very interested with no welcome and no apology. Maybe it was a bad day?

Student Flight Centre is worth a look at too. They should be able to obtain same prices as elsewhere but the staff are really helpful and friendly. They've been brilliant in assisting me with date changes for my flights and at NO EXTRA COST.

Don't forget from Nov this year meant to be extending the WHV from 12 months to 24.
