I am thinking of buying my backpack for my trip this weekend, but am debating on two!!!
The first one is the Karrimor wildnerness, and the second is Macpac Orient Express.
I can't decide which one is best. I am going away for 4 1/2 months, just visiting cities in Oz, NZ and Fiji.
If anyone has either pack, can you give me a review of it, and whether you liked it, as I think websites can be quite biased!!!!
They both cost £119 and are 65L.
Thanks very much
Okay, I have no experience with either... but I'd go for Karrimor. I just have this notion with macpacs that they are packs from highschool that books were carried in in cute colours...
Karrimor sounds tougher to me But then again, I am no expert. I'll feature the thread to see what others think!
In my opinion, Karrimor.
I've just bought one and it's brilliant. 65L and a 15L daypack.
A couple of my friends did a rtw trip last year and karrimor came highly recommended.
If you still can't decide ask the shop assitants for their advice. Most of them have had first hand experiences and will be able to find one that is most suitable.
I have a Karrimor and it's very good - definitely the best big pack that I or my girlfriend have had (of 5).
I have actually been looking at that exact macpac pack. When I was looking at them, the lady in the store said it is easy to get repaired if something goes wrong in another country compaered other brands. But I don't know anything about Karrimor packs in comparison. Let us know what you decide.
Thanks for all the replies, but am still thinking!!!!
I have tried both on, and they both fit really well, so i guess it kinda goes on looks now!!! The karrimor is a grey/pink and the macpac is black /light blue. I have actually found out since, that the macpac is 5litres bigger!!!
Oh decisions decisions!!!!!
All other things being the same, since you're going to New Zealand, I'd definitely go with the MacPac. (MacPac is a new zealand brand, and the Kiwis are forever surprised to find that you can buy them in other countries.)
I personally have a MacPac gemini, and love it to death. Best investment for my trip that I made.
I also think MacPac is generally considered to be a slightly higher quality brand (though both are top of the line), but that impression might just depend on who you talk to.
I have a MacPac Espirit hiking pack and think it is the best, but maybe Karrimor do travelling packs better.
I think packs can be a bit like shoes - the comfort depends on the person wearing them.
Sander has it about right, Sam I Am doesn't. Macpac is certainly not a high school bag! Not that you shouldn't mind you.
Karrimor and Macpac are equally highly rated - both near the top of the tree in reputation. Karrimor is British, Macpac from New Zealand.
I would simply chose the best pack for you and be happy.
Check one thing though - Karrimor usually offer a Lifetime Guarantee, and I have heard of people having packs replaced free if they've failed in any way or even worn out an a shorter trip.
Macpac may offer this too, but I'm not sure.
