Well the highlight of the entire area is ANGKOR WAT! You can easily spend a few days wandering around the vast Temple complexes there.

Probably the nicest and most interesting area in Laos is in and around Luang Prabang. You can also take a boat trip (day trip from Luang Prabang) down the Mekong River to the Pak Ou Caves, visiting villages along the way.

Also in Laos, the Plain of Jars looks very interesting. I didn't visit it when I was there because at the time land travel was not so safe, so I flew from Vientiane to Luang Prabang.

Laos: Vang Vieng was lots of fun, alot of activities to do, Phosavann (the plain of jar) was very interesting too, you learn alot about the secret war in the area.
Cambodia: Phomn Penn, just for the wildness, Ankor Wat is a must.

Luang Prabang & Veng Vieng are great spots for a first time young traveller in Cambodia.

Check out the photo gallery in my profile for pictures of both Cambodia & Laos

If you go to Vang Vieng be sure to rent a bike and cycle out to see some of the local villages, caves and lagoons. From Vang Vieng i kayacked down to Vientiane which was a nice way of making the journey, and a lot of fun too. From Luang Prabang the Kuang Si waterfalls are well worth a day trip to go swimming. The 4000 Islands in the South of Laos is lovely and relaxing and also a good place to cross the border into Cambodia, and you can also see the fresh water dolphins here.

In Cambodia be sure to stay at the Lazy Fish guesthouse in Phnom Penh, the rooms are clean and cheap and the staff are absolutely brilliant. Sihanoukville is nice for a few days at the beach. Take a boat out to the Islands as they are far more impressive than the beaches on the mainland.

Have fun
