I am from Australia and am interested in working with HIV/AIDs
organisations anywhere in Africa from April next year. (I speak excellent but not fluent french which I know can be useful in some parts of Africa).
I wanted to know if anyone can recommend an organisation or a place I should go, or if anyone has any contacts for people in Africa who do that sort of work.
There are a lot of organizations that arrange volunteer work, but it's typically for an 8 week period or so. Is this the kind of thing you are after (if so, iep might be something for you). If not, you'd probably have to look into contacting global organizations that have a local office in Australia where you can call to....
an 8 week period would be perfect... do you know any others in Africa in addition to IEP?
I know the SYTO folk are very good. They have offices in Ghana (the company I run in Norway works with this office and it's very good), Cote d'Ivoire (no own website yet, but this has contact details), Senegal and Nigeria that I know of. I've also been in touch recently with Africa Calling who offer different projects in South Africa.
What I am not sure about with all of these is whether they actually offer volunteer work direct, or will refer you to a partner in Australia that they work with. Either way, no harm in trying
