Pattaya is a great holiday destination and is perhaps one of the best places to escape to. Unusual and exotic, Pattaya is among the few cities in the world that offers a unique blend of urban life and tropical paradise. Warm and sunny throughout the year, this city is the prefect getaway for the family or if you just want to be by yourself.

Accommodations in this beautiful city range from hotel rooms at very low rates to those with exorbitant price tags. The cheaper hotels offer basic but clean rooms with a fan or with air conditioning, with bathroom facilities usually also provided. On the opposite end of the spectrum, five-star and luxury resorts, offer their guests plush rooms with spa treatments and massages. The grandest of rooms and the most sparse, all can be found in Pattaya.

come on - Pattaya beach is still dirty after 20 years of pumping there raw sewege from the whole town. My skin is still covered with some patches of itchy, red scalds after swimming there - I did not known about the condition of water.

now there is a sanitation station next to the pier - but I would imagine it would take at least 10 years to make Pattaya beaches safe to swim.

I have to say I haven't heard much good about Pattaya either... lot of middle age single white men go there right??

south of town there is Jomtien beach - but jammed with international hotels and package tourists.

Prices are high comparing to other resorts and with less farangs, like Cha Am

Pattaya isn't as bad as people say. Fair enough the beach is a bit rank and there is no way I would swim in the sea there, but most hotels have good pools.

I was in Pattaya in May, at the end of my holiday. My boyfriend and I got a hotel room with sat tv, air con and 2 pools at the hotel for 500B per night. We ate every night for 80B for the two of us, really decent Thai food and the happy hours there for drinks were fab, much better than the rest of Thailand at 40B for any drink up to 9pm and then 40B for draught Heineken all night. All bars and clubs were open later than the rest of Thailand too!

Yes, a lot of single men go there understandably for the go-go scene, but there are an increasing number of other travellers heading there now, simply because it is so cheap. As a woman, I found the atmosphere in Pattaya was good, everyone just wanted to have a good time! Not the place for everyone, but I would definately go back!

cha am is Bt 350 air condition + fridge + TV.

If I go to a seaside resort I really would prefer to swim in the sea than in a hotel swimming pool or even two of them.

Quoting mahmud

The city is crowdy also.

Wow, if you come from Dakka and say another city is crowded, then it must be really crowded!

Being I am from a crowdy city, I always prefer crowdless area. So, that it did not attract me.

Pattaya has the worst beaches in Thailand by a long way!!! Jomtiem Beach is hardly worth a visit. A friend of mine recently took his family as the tour operators are touting it as a tropical paradise, sure there are things to see and do, but when you see the rest of Thailand you'll know you've been short changed if you have paid 2 weeks for a package holiday in Pattaya.
