(hope this is in the right forum)

I'm travelling to norway in a couple weeks, and hoping to go on to russia to catch the trans-mongolian railway. should i get my russian visa before i leave england (my home country), the draw back of this is that i won't be able to be as flexible with my time in scandinavia as i'd like. but if it will save me a lot of difficulties trying to pick up a visa on the road it'd be worth it.
and am i right in thinking i'll be able to pick up a trans-mongolia ticket in moscow with only a few days notice in august? or do the tickets sell out quickly?

thanks for your help
danny

Check out this site, there may be some information that will be useful to you:

By the way, how are you gonna get home from Siberia, Mongolia, or China? You'll need a China visa if you plan to go all the way.

i'm planning on heading into china and then down to vietnam (hmm another visa to sort out) and that region, and will probably return home from bangkok.

I did the Vietnam-China border crossing the other way. I don't think there is a train in Northern Vietnam, but I was up around Sapa and crossed the border into China, then took a train to Kunming.

The Vietnam visa is a pain because you need to tell them exactly where you will enter (and I believe also the date you will enter).
