Hi all,

Well, it's a somewhat sad day today for Travellerspoint. After months of posting on Travellerspoint, Peter and me had to close the account of the user we all know as Wocca earlier today. This is the first time we have had to do this with a prominent poster but it came to our attention that in the past month, Wocca had not only been posting under that username, but several others. The posts by these 'others' served no purpose other than to take direct personal aim at other members, upset users and the hinder the everyday operation of the forums. All of these are matters we strongly condemn and that if allowed, would be the end of the forums as we know them.

We notified Wocca of our decision two days ago and gave him that time to clear up his profile if he wished before we blocked his account (and those of the several other identities being posted under). Some of you will have noticed the Travellerspoint Terms and Conditions thread which was started by Wocca accordingly and perhaps the above will help shed some light on why this issue was suddenly addressed.

I am sure you will understand that Peter and me did not make this decision lightly, in fact we deliberated over it for a long time, however we do not wish to run a forum in which users are not able to communicate in a normal fashion with one another and discuss matters openly, without the sole purpose of posting being the offending of other members.

Needless to say, this is an extreme case and as always, we prefer to stay well away from taking this type of action! If any of you have any questions or comments, please feel free to post them.

Wow guys...I am sure that was a tough decision to make but I am sure it was for the best interest of TP and all of its members. I commend you for doing what you felt was best for all of us, including guys are doing an amazing job!

Hey S&P,

Yes indeed, it is a sad day for TP and it's members. Personally, I understand and appreciate the amount of time, thought and discussion that comes with making a decision such as this. But, I must also say that this action will bring some much needed peace back into the Valley of Travellerspoint.

The members of TP are a BIG, wonderful, interesting mix of nationalities and personalities. The longer one participates, the greater the feeling of community and friendship. I'm sad that Wocca seemed to have good intentions in the beginning, but somewhere along the way, lost sight of the community view and focused on the personal aspects.

In the words of Wacko, Yacko and Dot (Animaniacs): "It's a great big universe and we're all really puny - we're just tiny little specks about the size of Mickey Rooney.." No offense to Mickey Rooney - but it does rather put thing in perspective. TP is a travel-related universe that just happens to let us get to know each other in many different ways.

Thank you Sam and Pete. I know this was hard to do. I also know it was something that needed doing before things became too out of control.

Quoting Isadora

But, I must also say that this action will bring some much needed peace back into the Valley of Travellerspoint.

And that's certainly a good thing.

I understand that it was a hard decision to make but any action that restores the harmony and happiness to TP is always a good move.

Congratulations to both of you for always being fair and doing a great job with TP !!

Thanks guys. It's something that's entirely against the spirit of your site, and probably not something you envisaged ever having to do, but I'd be a hypocrite if I said I wasn't secretly delighted about it.

Hopefully, now we can all get back to talking about our favourite topic: Travel!

Wow, I didn't realise this had happened. I'm sorry that it occurred, but thanks to S&P for resolving the problem. Thank you for restoring peace to TP. :)

I have mixed feelings about Wocca's account being closed.

I'm not denying that he managed to get under the skin of a number of members at various times; me included.

Yet at the same time there were many instances, particularly late last year and early this year, where Wocca's posts were quirky, interesting, thought provoking, and most certainly popular.

I fully appreciate Peter and Sam's decision to close Wocca's account, although I do wonder if a temporary suspension of his account may have been sufficient for the time being.

I'd be lying if I said that I won't miss Wocca.

As I said above, I have mixed feelings.

I agree with that James, Wocca did generate a lot of interesting chat, and he was even like the resident TP celeb there for a long time.

That's why his sudden transformation, or whatever you want to call it, was so unnerving.

In the last month or so, he was just rude and insulting and pedantic to just about everybody. I dont wnat to end up turning this into a thread about Wocca's flaws - suffice to say, that Wocca's account would not have been closed unless it was deserved, I think. It's a pity that it had to come to that...

Wow that is a shock, I had no idea either

but at the end of the day, we don't really know each other that well, well those of us that haven't met, and even if you post along with someone for months or years you might not get to know the true them.

Well done Pete and Sam for as always keeping travellerspoint a nice place to be! and for making a tough decision.
