I have mixed feelings about Wocca's account being closed.

I'm not denying that he managed to get under the skin of a number of members at various times; me included.

Yet at the same time there were many instances, particularly late last year and early this year, where Wocca's posts were quirky, interesting, thought provoking, and most certainly popular.

I fully appreciate Peter and Sam's decision to close Wocca's account, although I do wonder if a temporary suspension of his account may have been sufficient for the time being.

I'd be lying if I said that I won't miss Wocca.

As I said above, I have mixed feelings.

I agree James. Late last year and early this year there were a lot of interesting threads started by Wocca. Something happened somewhere along the line though and we've been in touch with him a lot about it rather than take harsh measures straightaway (we all get annoyed with one another at some time so that's nothing to fret about). Everyone's free to take a 'break' at any time (well, besides Pete and me I guess :) ) and if anyone has nothing to contribute, then by all means, don't. But messing it up for others and just posting to annoy and insult is just not the right course of action.

I've got to agree with all the agreeing - there's an inherent honesty in the TP family, and deliberatly deceiving people to further an agenda (whatever it may be - cause I certainly don't see what it could possibly have been in this case) is pretty low. You guys have incredible stores of patience and understanding, so if it's come to this point, it must have gotten pretty bad.

It's sad to see such a thought-provoking and long-standing member go, but being deceived is insulting and misleading and things could only have gone further downhill from there.

but at the end of the day, we don't really know each other that well, well those of us that haven't met, and even if you post along with someone for months or years you might not get to know the true them.

In a way I agree....but there are a few of us that are totally open books..and to paraphrase the Great and Wise Isa...Something about..... open books...wishing you could skip a few chapters..;)...I think even if someone is being can you possibly keep that up for long?? Maybe it is all in how we are raised. Some are just shy, or very private, and some of us (guilty) are brutally honest and blunt. I wish I could rein it in a little, but that just isn't me.

But that is one of the things I love so much about TP...the different personalities, backgrounds, ideas...I am glad we are not all alike!

Is this where we all have a group hug? teehee :)

hey yeah I agree, and personally, I am pretty much the same, in fact people often tell me I am too honest! I never really saw the point in faking things on the net, its a bit sad no?

and I'm up for a group hug

I probably don't need to say this, but maybe a reminder is not a bad thing either. (Yup, that mom thing kickin' in again...) So, here goes and you can always stop reading at any time. ;)

The fact that someone was using multiple identities on this site has been, to say the least, a bit un-nerving. And, for those who hadn't already become suspicious of the situation, this thread has now brought it to the forefront. In doing so, it has put additional members on "alert" so to speak. That is not all bad - and it is a wake up call to many of us that not everyone is who they seem. But, that is not my issue for this post...

My issue is this:
Suspicion alone can be just as disruptive as Wocca's actions were to this, or any site. New members are signing up every day. And, 99.99% of them are here for the same reasons we are - to get advice, learn new things and meet new people. (The other 0.01% I chalk up to advertising spammers.) I'm not saying you should tell your life story to everyone here, but remember that, at one time, you were also the new neighbor on the block. Wondering if the next new member in chat or in the forums is another Wocca is not fair to them. Not everyone will fill out their profile as completely as we might like, but that doesn't mean they are sinister in their intentions either. I guess what I'm trying to say in this (now) long-winded post - remember when you were new to TP. Hopefully, you felt a sense of being welcomed into an unique internet community. Before we let our suspicions get the better of us - let's keep ourselves focused on the positive, not the possible negative of any given member.

Okay, if you made it through this - go answer some threads or ask some questions or just click to another forum! Thanks for being kind!
