Going to Tokyo for 6 days (ish) begining of Dec 05. Want to make the most of it (altho need to be careful of cash), any recommendations?

Also, is Hakone, Kasatsu and Nikko worth a visit since I'll be in the neighbourhood?

Nikko is very nice. You can always tell a truly beautiful place because it still looks nice even in bad weather. When I went, it was raining all day and the sky was slate-grey, but I was still very impressed.

I've only been to Lake Hakone, not the city itself (driven through). I hear Hakone has some of the best onsen (hot springs), if you're interested. But better than Hakone must be Mt Fuji, only a short drive further. Very, very impressive day trip. As you'll be there in December, it will look particularly scenic in the snow.

Kasatsu, no idea.

I'm going to Japan this October. I will also stay in Tokyo, from where I will make trips to see Asakusa, Akihabara, Harajuku, Disney Sea & Disneyland (in Chiba), perhaps Studio Ghibli (the animation maker), etc.

You should visit Nikko when you can. It's beautiful.

I know. What I meant is when I will base in Tokyo to visit those places on day trips.
