I've never been to the beaches of Southern Thailand. Which places would be the best to go to:
1) See those beautiful rock formations coming out of the water.
Also, if any other beaches are good to visit for a different reason, feel free to mention them also.
I'll probably be over in Thailand next Feb. and I've seen pretty much everything I want North of Bangkok. So I'd like to read some feedback here and then pick a couple beaches to visit and see those beautiful formations in the water, do some snorkeling, and enjoy the scene.
Any other info. would also be great, like how much to fly (or however) to the beach area? How much it costs to stay there? To snorkel? etc..
Or how to get form one to the other (and how long that would take), etc..
The rock formations start north of Phuket in Pangnga Bay then south through Krabi down to Trang near the Malasian border and the Tarutao Islands (Survivor Thailand was filmed there).
I would do the Sea Canoe in Pangnga Bay then head to Krabi and Koh Lanta. Excellent snorkeling around Lanta Island. If you have the time Sea Canoe again for a 6 day Sea Canoe camping trip around the Tarutao islands.
There are lots of Sea Kayak and Canoe companies but the best one my wife and I enjoy is http://www.seacanoe.net/ we have been on different ones that were cheaper but not near as good.
I fpund almost nice beaches at Samui Island.
Krabi is a lot better than Samui or Koh Tao.
Sounds like Krabi is one of the best. Can a snorkel around there? Or do I just enjoy the beauty there and have to go elsewhere to snorkel.
I'm trying to decide whether to go to 1 beach (for 5-6 days) or to visit 2 different ones for (a few days each?
Krabi and Koh Lanta. Excellent snorkeling around Lanta Island. Cheers
Is Krabi near to Lanta Island?
I could visit Krabi (for the beauty) and Lanta (for the snorkeling).
Koh Lanta is a short boat ride away from Krabi, no worries. If you look at a map of Southwest Thailand you will understand.
Krabi all the way! Wonderful limestone formations, good beaches, lovely islands, reefs, good day trips, cheap, and not overpopulated by tourists. Also, worth giving the region your tourist dollars since it was hit by the tsunami.
Thanks everybody. Krabi sounds like a definite.
Keep the recommendations coming.
been to most of the places mentioned, recommend krabi to koh phi phi and koh samui this is mainly for chilling. the rock formation, phuket to james bond island. with the expection of koh samui, the rest are all on the southern west coast of thailand around the same area. i'd probably say visit 2 islands one for snorkelling and one for chilling.
