Working Visas?

Travel Forums Europe Working Visas?

Hey everyone!
I'm planning on doing a rotary exchange starting September 2006 until June/July 2007. I am probably going to France and I will be graduating from high school there.
The year after (Sept. 2007 - July 2008) I want to take a year off and travel and work in Europe somewhere... preferrably France to improve my french, but really it doesn't matter too much.

The problem is, am I able to apply for a Visa for France, let's say, if I'm NOT in Canada? Or do i need to be in my home country to apply for a Visa? Or is it possible to apply for a Visa NOW, but i wouldn't use it for another 2 years?

If anyone knows anything about this, I am open to hear your suggestions, or personal experiences with Visas. Any help at all is much appreciated!! Thank you in advance!!

Lauren

Hey Lauren,

Where have you been??? Enjoying your Summer I hope.

Anyway, I don't know anything about WORK visas, but I do know you can apply for Visas FROM anywhere. Doesn't matter if you are in Canada, USA, or a European country, you just apply form the countries (ie-France) embassy.

Usually Visas are good for a period of time from when they are issued, so it's not usually a good idea to get them too far in advance. However, maybe a work visa is a different situation. For example I just got my visa for India and it's good for 6 months, so had I gotten it too early it wouldn't be good when I need it.

Hope all is well with you...what have you been doing with yourself?

To simplify the last answer. You do not need to be in Canada when you apply for a visa (you can do it form anywhere in the World). And you probably cannot apply too far in advance.

thanks for your reply jeff... you always know so much valuable information!! i've looked into the Working Holiday Visas, but it says you must be in Canada to apply, so im not sure that's what i want to do...
i just thought it would be so much easier and less expensive if i didn't have to fly back to canada just to have a visa issued, so ill keep looking at websites and what they have to offer...!!
i haven't been up to too much lately, but i flew from vancouver to toronto and i've reunited with my mom!! she had 32 rolls of film developed just from 12 months in Spain!!
haha but not too much is new with me,... what's new with you?! how's your summer been so far?
thanks for your help... and if anyone knows anything else to input, it's a big help!!! thanks!!

Lauren

Hi,

Here is some info. that you prbably already know:

http://www.aupair-agency.com/France-Holiday-Work-Visa.htm

I tried to find more info. for you but the embassy in Ottawa (in English) closed & the embassy (or consulate) in Montreal site is in French. Maybe you can understand it.

Leave it too the French to make things difficult for foreigners. .
