Me and a friend are going to be flying out to perth in November, and from there we want to travel up to uluru, and then be down to Adelaide for xmas (18 December).
I was wonderering if anyone has done this route, and what they could recommend.
I have looked at getting greyhound to uluru (but not sure what pass to get) and then getting the train from alice springs to adelaide (the ghan).
Do you think this will work in the amount of time that we have.
Also we are on a tight budget, so maybe it might be a bit too expensive!!!!
Any info will be gratefully excepted and thought through!!!!
Thanks very much
from what i'd heard the ghan is not really very cheap- as its something i've thought about doing it i looked up some prices- www.theghan.com.au. to go from alice springs to adelaide, an adult in the cheapest fare- the red kangaroo daynighter seat is $215, $105 for a student. so not too bad, but the cabins are much more expensive.
if you want to try flying try www.qantas.com.au, www.virginblue.com.au and www.jetstar.com.au (i'm not sure if jetstar fly this route but it might be worth checking). i had a quick look at Virgin Blue and found most flights to be booked already for that time of year but it could have just been a bad time to check.
as for greyhounds from perth to uluru that would be a very long drive!! i've never really looked into it so sorry can't give you much advice on passes etc.
hope this helps and PM me if you have any questions,
The ghan might be a little expensive, but if you want to splash out - it really is an experience! If you decide the ghan is too expensive I would definatley reccomend flying.. you´ll die of bordem on the endless trip via Greyhound - particularly if you are short of time, my opinion is that the money saved by taking the bus rather than flying is really not worth all the hassle....
Good luck and email me if you want any further info...
