Does anyone know of any ridiculously cheap ways to get overseas from Australia? Are there any agents dealing in super cheap flights, etc? Just getting a bit sick of going from travel agent to travel agent and taking advantage of their 'we'll beat it by 10%' offers until they wont go any lower...
I think NZ, Fiji and Indonesia are about the cheapest places to go these days. Well, maybe once you're in Indonesia, you could find a cheap way to get to other parts of Asia.
Well, if you don't mind where you go, you could also try becoming a courier.
Havent been to NZ yet so that is an option... maybe when sumer comes... would be good to be able to get a bit further than the pacific, but I suppose we are smack bang in the middle of nowhere down here...
Yeah, it's definitely a problem if you want to go further. I think that's one reason so many Australians go for loooong trips overseas, ie 6 months in Europe, etc.. I guess the best way is to find work that allows you to travel.
i'm always thinking the same thing as you and Peter have been talking about- with Australia being so isolated it's not very overseas travelling friendly. like Peter suggests, New Zealand, South Pacific Islands and Asia are probably our best options. i've ended up doing more travel in Australia with my family, just because of the huge overseas costs.
There's certainly quite a lot for me to see in Australia still. I haven't even seen Uluru yet, nor western Australia, Kakadu, the Great Barrier reef, the list goes on And I still have NZ up my sleeve as well, which is ridiculously cheap to get to these days! I do think that Eastern Europe still works out pretty favourably for Australians, mainly due to the cheaper cost of living there. If for instance you were to compare a three week holiday in NZ to a three week holiday in Eastern Europe, I think Eastern Europe could in fact end up being cheaper. Indonesia would by far be the cheapest option, but I'm not exactly jumping up and down to get on a plane to Bali at the moment.
yes, i still have lots to see in australia. some of the things i still have to see include sydney and melbourne, kakadu, tasmania and new zealand. i planned a trip to new zealand once but never got to go, so when i do decide to go i've done all the background research. but i have seen uluru (only spent a few hours there on a flight layover so i may go back one day) and a fair bit of queensland. also being from western australia i've seen quite a few things here but still yet to see broome and right up north- it's cheaper to go interstate than up there.
Yeah, would like to explore Indonesia a bit more (have been before) but not so keen at the moment. I have seen quite a bit of Australia but in that respect am kind of waiting til I have got enough time to hop in the car for an extended period of time and drive. NZ is definately on the cards when it gets closer to summer...
