Hey Ems!

Though only a lowly advanced diver myself, my question is... What gear are you planning to take along (BC, reg, mask & fins - plus the misc extra straps, o-rings, etc.)?

I used to take all of that with me on each trip (mainly because I [i]love[/b] my reg and BC) but have stopped carting them all over the countryside. I now just take my mask and fins. My husband only takes his mask. We have found that most of the dive operations have very adequate to excellent equipment and it saves so much space when packing. (I do take extra straps.)

Over time, we have also learned that most DMs working for a Dive Center, do not use their own equipment while working for that operation. If you experience equipment failure, the expense of repair is theirs - not yours. If your equipment fails - it will be you responsibilty monetarily. No one wants equipment to fail but it is something that needs to be taken under consideration. Personally, I would follow up with the dive centers you will be working with to see if you are required to use your own equipment or not. It will always be there when you return home.

I'm afraid I can't answer the "storage" question. You might reconsider diving in Costa Rica - though I have not personally done it - the diving is suppose to be quite good.

Sounds like a great trip and I am quite envious of all the diving you will be doing!!!

hey, thanks for all the advice! i guess the only reason i want to take my regs and BCD with me is cos i just got them for my birthday and they're top of the range! they were bought specifically with this trip in mind, and it seems like such a waste if i don't use sure i'll think of something, someone suggested couriering them to the next country.

thanks anyway, and happy diving!!

A courier may not be a bad way to go. Good luck figuring it all out. Wish I could be more help...

hey...i've been having the same conversation on a divers forum, and someone came up with a great suggestion...using airport storage. When you land put it in a locker, and pick it up when you leave. not so good if you're leaving from a different airport, but as that's not usually the case, i think it's a fab suggestion! Just in case any one else was in a similar situation!!

I have to say that thought crossed my mind. But, I wasn't sure how large the airport lockers might be. (I've never used one...) Very good idea and definitely worth checking into.

Again - have fun!
