kyk has indicated that this thread is about Canada

I'm planning a trip to the Gaspe Peninsula in late August. I have a few questions for anyone familiar with the area:

1. What are the must-sees of Gaspesie?
2. If you've been hiking in Gaspesie National Park, what are the best routes?
3. Has anyone stayed at the Auberge Chateau de la Bahia in Pointe-a-la-Garde? It looks kind of kooky, but is it worth it?
4. Is it worthwhile exploring the small towns on the south coast (Bonaventure, New Richmond, Carleton, etc.), or should I just blow through?
5. Where's a good place to stay in Perce? I'm really only interested in camping, youth hostels or cheap B&Bs. I hate chain motels and the like.
6. Is it worthwhile to go to Forillon National Park if I've already spent a few days in Gaspesie National Park?
7. Can you actually see any fossils at Miguasha National Park?

Thanks in advance if you can answer any of these questions!

1. What are the must-sees of Gaspesie? The sea (you can rent a sailboat in Gaspe or Perce with a captain), the mountains, and fishes!
2. If you've been hiking in Gaspesie National Park, what are the best routes? Jacques-Cartier mountain (to see the caribou), Mont Albert for the "plateau". For that one, go by behind. Don't take the trail at the front which goes up in the forest and you see nothing. By behind, you follow a river and you enter in the valley behind the mountain. It's absolutly beautiful, then you go down fast in the forest.
3. Has anyone stayed at the Auberge Chateau de la Bahia in Pointe-a-la-Garde? It looks kind of kooky, but is it worth it? Many hotels and motels of Gaspesie are bad. So, try camping.
4. Is it worthwhile exploring the small towns on the south coast (Bonaventure, New Richmond, Carleton, etc.), or should I just blow through? Yes it is because it's very different then the north coast.
5. Where's a good place to stay in Perce? I'm really only interested in camping, youth hostels or cheap B&Bs. I hate chain motels and the like.
6. Is it worthwhile to go to Forillon National Park if I've already spent a few days in Gaspesie National Park? Oh yeah! Don't miss it!!
7. Can you actually see any fossils at Miguasha National Park? I don't know!

Hi Karen,

I went to Gaspe eons ago on a trip with my grandparents (which was a lot more fun than it sounds, actually). The scenery is the biggest attraction; at some point, you can't see land on the other side of the St. Lawrence anymore. It's breathtaking. As for other must-sees, you have to visit the Roche Perce as well as the Chic Choc mountains. There's an auberge there called Le Gite de Mont Albert. We rented a huge cabin (you can also rent a room in the main building) and woke up surrounded by clouds - it was gorgeous. You can also get the best fish dishes all along the coast.

Tway.

Snowgirl -- any idea what the Mont-Albert route "by behind" is called or where it starts?

Thanks,
Karen
