When i was in oz. one of the biggest highlights of my trip was swimming with the whalesharks on the Ningaloo reef in Western Australia - was just wondering if any of you had expereienced this and what did you think of them - it still doesnt feel like i actually swam with them - amazing is an understatment. :)

WOW!!! How close did you get to them? How big were they? How many did you see?

I would love to swim (or even see) a Whate Shark!

That's Awesome.

Er, about 3meters close to them, n too close for my liking to their tails, the current was strong that day it look up right up to them aaah.

they wereabout 8m long not so big as some as they can get over 12m long some een 18m long.

I saw 3 that day, it was bloody cold tho n waves were huge so it was a struggle to keep up with them but wow it was amazing, the coolest creature i have ever seen, so gentle n peaceful

Jem21 you lucky bugger!!! In April we went over (we live on the east coast) with the sole purpose of swimming with them - we were in Coral Bay for 3 days and the weather was so bad we never got on the damn boat! There are some great snorkelling spots however. For anyone planning to go, make sure you have days free in case your first booked whale shark date gets wiped. Otherwise you can lose your $$. Also, the 4wd biking trips from Coral Bay are great fun -- take the one to Oyster Bridge for the BEST snorkelling ever. It's like being in a huge aquarium. The Barrier Reef has nothing on this.
