Hi guys,

We were planning on going to Nepal early next year, but I'm not sure now after reading this. Does anyone have some kind of link to see what is going on and if it is safe to travel there?

Thanks
Vic

OK Vic, you can go to this address :
http://www.google.com/alerts?hl=en&q
and then type some keyword like "nepal maoist" in the search term.
This Google Alerts will keep you updated with the latest news and send it to your e-mail.

To answer whether it is safe or not. The incident mostly happen in the southern part of Nepal bordering India. In my opinion, it's same with situation in Thailand. The south east part of Thailand (Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani etc) are now in emergency but if you travel to let say Central part (eg. Kanchanaburi, Rayong, Bangkok etc), north east part (eg Udon, Loei etc.), north part (eg. Chiangmai, Chian rai etc.) or even Prachuap Khiri Khan, Trang that is bordering the south east part provinces are very safe.

But in Nepal, maybe another story. From the news, it seems that it's OK now. Furthermore, I've 4 friends in Kathmandu and they are OK but they also ask me to take care when arrive in Kathmnandu.

However, even many people still keep going to Nepal, keep alert with the latest news. After all, the decision is yours.

Wow, It's really depressing that the moaists are gaining ground and becoming more active in more areas than before. I've been to nepal 3 times and always felt 100% safe, day or night, but that was all pre-2001. I read that the Moaists now control 25% of Nepal.

That's why, Jeff! Wondering why such beautiful and lovely people like Thailand, Burma and Nepal would get such trouble...many sigh...

We decided to change our travel plans this summer, because also our foreign office adviced against travelling to Nepal. :(

So now I'm waiting for things to cool down to visit my number
one dream destination. Depressing...

Anyways, I hope the situation is better by the time of your travels.

Hi vilmalotta,

Where you be visiting this Summer?

Too bad about Nepal, it's a great place, I would also like to go back some day.

I'm thinking this is prob a long shot, isn't travel in tibet quite restricted and mostly guided tours?

Hi Jeffrey,

We did Dubai-Singapore-KL-Langkawi-Shanghai(+Suzhou)-
San Francisco-Dallas-NYC in May/June.
Unfortunately didn't have more time for that
but still had totally amazing time...

Now planning new adventures... May be things will
be better in Nepal by that.

I have still not been able to convince my husband
that quitting our jobs and leaving for good
(or at least for a year or two) is a GOOD idea! ;)

hello cikusang and all, i plan to travel to Kathmandu from Sep 26th-Oct 03. I've a friend there working as a tour guide, he will charge me US 15 per day. I have every details about him and his company. Anybody interested ?

As Maoist is targeting road attack, I'd fly from New Delhi to Kathmandu. We can meet at Kathmandu. My option is Annapurna region.

Thanks, Pradis...but i've channged my mind now to other places...so bon voyage man and don't forget to keep us updated after your arrival there!

Cheers,
Lee
