This question actually relates to a real trip I am taking that is somewhat confirmed (deposit has been payed on the plane ticket)... En route to Europe in January I will have approximately one week in Sri Lanka flying in and out of Colombo... can anyone suggest places that me and my friend should consider visiting to get a good taste of Sri Lanka?
how about a trip to galle and the dutch fort? you could visit kandy, site of the 'buddha's touth' temple or spend some days on the beach in bentota...
there's lots of things to do in a week, just keep in mind: wintermonsun on the north-east coast !
have a nice trip,
I would recommend to take off to Dambulla and Sigiriya (ancient cities) straight from the airport which is north of Colombo. Then from Dambulla go to Kandy (historical city) and to Nuwaraeliya (tea growing, cool mountains and beautiful scenary). Then to Ella and down via wellawaya to Yala (safari) and along the south beach passing the lovely city of Galle Fort and the great beaches along the coast back to Colombo.
its a good trip if youve got 7 days and you can pretty much see a good deal of Sri lanka in a rushed week!
Colombo is good for food and shopping!
