I'm about to start my round the world trip in 9 and half weeks and at the moment I'm trying to sort everything out. I'm taking my digital camera with me and have been looking at getting another couple of memory cards. I've got 2 cards already and can take up to 500 photo's but obviously that won't be enough for a nine month trip. A friend did recommend waiting and purchasing larger memory cards in Dubai airport as they will be much cheaper than purchasing them here.
Has anyone else done the same? Are they easy to get out there? Anyone encountered any problems etc.
Would be great to hear other people's experiences.
We just visited Dubai in May/June. We didn't buy memory cards,
but checked out the price of electronics in general, especially
cameras & zooms. In my oppinion Dubai airport is (no longer?)
the cheapest place to buy electronics. Prices were lower e.g.
in Singapore. But I guess that depends on what your comparing
the prices with...
We've found that usually you'll get the best prices for memory
cards on the inernet.
Had to buy a card in Thailand couple of years ago and cost
the same as in Finland.
I believe Dubai is very cheap in electronic staff comparing with Europe or other Gulf countries. If you can go to the downtown, you will be able to find variation in prices and you can bargain as well.
