With my birthday coming up I am being asked what I need for my round the world travels so any idea what to ask for?

What is the best ruck sack to get?

What about travel guides?

Anything other essentials that you think I may need???

Travel guides, think about lonely planet or footprint. Lonely Planet is by far the best in my opinion and i have seen 10 copies of LP to 1 of Footprint since being away.

Other expensive presents you may want to ask for are some qualtiy hiking boots, they cost a bit, but only if you really need them, and are gonna be hiking?
What about a paclite goretex jacket, something solid that you know thats good quality for when it rains hard?

I suggest looking on the list on Travellers point for packing suggestions, you can then have a comprehensive list of what you think you may need or want as a pressie.

and then ask for the most expensive items

(and maybe some cash...always useful)

I agree... definately needs to be cash donations! Alternatively... are you a photographer? photographic equipment is always nice...

I asked for one of those special soft fibre travel towels that folds up really small and dries within minutes. Very useful! Plus its not very expensive (approx £20) so a great pressie from someone that can't afford that much.

Wow, what a great dilemma! Hope you have fun on your trip.

Shoes are important for any sort of travelling?
2hr drying underwear?
Rainwear?

Good luck in your decision.

I would ask for a good digital camera and a memory card of 2GB.

I would ask for a couple of luxury hotel bookings, for respite.
