How interesting, Greg! Never thought about this
So I see that the whole Europe should be lost somewhere in Pacific ocean If I'm not wrong (oh, where is my old good globe?..) my star is close to New Zealand. Hey someone from the opposite?

Antipode of the midwest USA puts me out in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Southern Australia/ Tasmania (Longitude) and south of Sri Lanka (Latitude). Splash!

I'm in the Pacific too! just off the coast of Tasmania

(well at least I'm not far from somewhere warm!!)

Well, my antipode is about 1000 miles east of Capetown, South Africa.

Thanks for the fun game, Greg--and for explaining how to compute this.

Enjoy.

Quoting vilmalotta

This is fun! :)
My antipode is in the Pacific Ocean, west from New Zealand,
quite close to Antartica.

Mine is even a bit further south than vilmalotta's.
I should have hired a boat when I was in N.Z.!!!

You forgot to put a minus sign in front of the longitudinal value. Your antipode is somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. It's at Latitude: 17° 53 Min. 0 Sec. Longitude: -34° 54 Min. 0 Sec.

If I still had any programming skills, I'd write an app to do this for people...

Check out this site, which has a map of the world (in black) and a map of the antipodes (in red). It might make things a little easier to locate.

I'm a little disappointed that everyone's seems to keep coming up in water. I guess that's what happens when 75% of the earth's surface is covered by the stuff.
